Irvington, Kennedy,
and Washington High Schools
all qualified to compete at USA's National Cheer
Competition in Anaheim. In celebration of this, Cheer
with a Twist decided to hold its first annual event for the high school teams to
showcase their national routines to the community.
This exhibition was conceived as a way to
build unity amongst the girls, and encourage Fremont spirit in Anaheim. All of
these girls (50 Fremont families total) cheer all year
long for basketball, football and even the police and fire football game here in
our community! In addition, they put in endless hours
of practice time perfecting their competition routines to hopefully compete with
the best-of-the-best in the Nation!
This year the Fremont
schools were amongst the best in the Nation. All four teams - Irvington's,
Kennedy's, and Washington's Varsity teams; and Washington's JV team all advanced
to Sunday Finals at the March 7-9 USA National competition.
Irvington's competition
team was so thrilled just to make it to Nationals after all the changes that
took place during their season. In January new Advisors came in and then
CwT was asked to choreograph a new competition routine and coach the girls for
the 6 weeks remaining in the season. In just three short weeks the girls
had to compete the routine for the first time at UCA Northern California
Championships on Feb 16. They did a great job which boosted their
confidence for USA Nationals only 2-1/2 weeks later. A few changes were
made to the routine during this time and off they went. They had a strong
1st day performance, but we were all unsure, yet hopeful, they would make it to
finals. At the end of day 1, Irvington was announced as a finalist.
Everyone was ecstatic! Knowing the difficulties of the season and now
being rewarded for their commitment and hard work over the past six weeks, the
girls and parents were overjoyed! Irvington had another high energy
performance and finished the competition in 5th.
This was the first time in
over 20 years Kennedy High School has had a competitive cheerleading team. The
girls had been training with CwT since Summer and went into the season with a
strong routine. Three of their five regional competitions Kennedy finished
in 1st place becoming UCA and USA Northern California Champions. But, just
over one week before attending nationals, they lost a teammate. Some
sections of the routine had to be re-choreographed and the girls were committed
to making it work! They went into nationals extremely nervous as they
hadn't competed the routine with the changes. They had a fantastic 1st day
performance that put them in 1st place and advanced them into finals. They
finished the competition in 2nd place with a strong final day performance!
While CwT doesn't coach
Washington High School, we still have a great love of and support for their
girls. They had an incredible, undefeated regional competition season.
They went into nationals with a strong routine and it felt like this was their
year! After years of qualifying for nationals but never making it to
finals, their Varsity team finally made it! Even without their coach (she
was giving birth to a beautiful baby girl), Washington's Varsity team had an
amazing performance and finished 1st! Washington's JV also advanced to
finals, had a great performance and finished 4th.
We couldn't be prouder of
all the Fremont teams' performances and their representation of our great city!
Congratulations!!
The Argus attended the
March 4th Spirit Spectacular and posted pictures of the teams in the Local
section of the paper on the 6th. It also did a follow-up on the results
from Nationals on the 11th. Thanks to The Argus for supporting the
community's cheerleading teams!
